Leaving Certificate Music students visit National Concert Hall

NEWS / 30 November 2012

Rachel Jones (5th Year) describes the visit to the National Concert Hall on Monday, 19th November.

On Monday, 19th November, the 5th and 6th Year Music students went to the National Concert Hall, to listen to a live performance of Bach's Cantata - "Jesu, der du meine Seele" and Gerald Barry's "Piano Quartet No. 1".

We were told to meet at the Concert hall for 9.30am and soon became worried when Ms. conlon couldn't be found. However, we soon realised that she had been inside all along, whilst we had been waiting outside!

When we were finally seated, we were greeted with Bach's Cantata - a beautiful Baroque piece performed by the Concert Hall Orchestra and the Palastrina Boys choir. Next, we listened to Barry's Piano Quartet, a modern piece on which some opinions differed greatly - many of us having found it quite unpleasant.

Afterwards, we were allowed out to lunch and then headed back to the school for 1.30pm. Overall, it was a good morning and we all enjoyed it greatly.
