Congratulations to John Nolan and Hana Hughes who were awarded Bronze Gaisce Awards in December.
"Gaisce - The President's Award is the most prestigious Award in Ireland for young people aged 15 to 25. Gaisce is an old Irish word which means ‘a great achievement’. The Award programme is a challenge from the President of Ireland to young people to set and pursue personal goals in four different areas of activity; Community Involvement, Personal Skills, Physical Recreation and an Adventure Journey, with the support of an adult leader." "For my Gaisce Award, I took part in four programs: Toastmasters, which is a public speaking program; Log on to Learning, a Stratford College initiative about improving computer literacy amongst the elderly; a physical activity program also in Stratford College and again organised by Ms. Finnegan; and a cooking course, run by the former Stratford College Arts teacher, Ms. Twyford-Troy. It was a great experience and really made me enjoy it. I urge everyone to give us a shot." John Nolan (6th Year)
"Doing the An Gaisce Award was a great experience for me. From the very first time Ms. Finnegan mentioned it I was determined that I would give it my best go. It really inspired me to get up and do activities, such as volunteering at my local library and starting piano lessons. Two years later I have finally received my Bronze medal in person and it is a great reminder of all that I have achieved." Hana Hughes (6th Year)
