Ms. O'Kelly

At the Library                            By Tim Cullen & Sean Lysaght
I learned the truth at seventeen
That there were books I hadn’t seen
I found this out at half past three
While sittin’ in the library.

The Interwebs we couldn’t use
The things that other people would lose
Were kept in another small dark place
Absentees Ms O’Kelly would chase.

Those of us who borrowed books
Or played chess without the rooks
Desperately read inside
Wishing characters were alive.

Oh won’t you come and read with me
Spend your whole day with me
Said Ms O’Kelly
At the library.

The brown-eyed girl behind the desk
Working on the internets
Said pretty please the ones who speak
I’ve been working hard all this week.

The jokes Ms O’Kelly would have
Would really make you laugh
On World Book Day she’d have a quiz
Which she could answer oh that library whizz.

For those of us who knew the dame
Ms O’Kelly was her name
Getting wifi was her game
It was Ms O’Kelly’s aim.

We spend all day and we spend all night
Wondering when we might
Get a little chance to log in with you
At the library.

To those of us who never knew
Ms O’Kelly is there for you
Working at the library
Being oh so friendly.

Driving her Ford to school
Ms O’Kelly being so cool
Waving down the corridor
What more could Ms O’Kelly want for.

I learned the truth from Ms O’Kelly
That new books were in the library
Which we could read all day
Without even having to pay.

I learned the truth from Ms O’Kelly
At the library … that day…
