5th and 6th Year Music students visit the National Concert Hall

NEWS / 6 December 2011

On Monday, 28th November, 5th and 6th Year Music students visited the National Concert Hall to hear performances by the composers, Bach and Barry. Jake Long (5th Year) explains why the trip was really worthwhile.

Music Students at the National Concert HallOn Monday 28th November, the 5th and 6th year Music classes visited the National Concert Hall to see a performance of Bach’s Cantata: "Jesu der du meine Seele" and Gerald Barry’s Piano Quartet No.1.  The concert was put on especially for Leaving Certificate Music students, as both pieces are featured on the Leaving Certificate course. Both pieces were explained after the orchestra’s performance and the backgrounds given. The pieces were then broken down into individual pieces by the speaker, and there was interaction with various sections of the orchestra and choir.

We all found the performance exceptionally helpful as these pieces are really brought to life when performed live. It was also very interesting to see how a professional orchestra works in unison to create the sounds we often hear recorded. Overall, the trip was a successful one and enjoyed by all.
