NEWS / 2 March 2021

The ISSU (Irish Second Level Students Union) facilitated an online Student Council Training Workshop on Monday 1st March. It was a wonderful opportunity for the group to reflect on their role and responsibilities as Student Council Representatives as well as the successes and challenges of this recently established Student Council.

They discussed the Student Council in Stratford College, the school community, and the education system.

Feedback such as 'We encourage active citizenship, ' 'We let every year group have equal input,' 'Our school is very inclusive,' 'Every student's voice is heard,' 'Everyone is accepted no matter what' 'A good environment to work in' are just some of the strengths identified.

The world of online learning with the stress of the Leaving Certificate and CBA's were identified as some of the challenges. The first Student Council Weekly Meeting since this activity acted on the learning from this workshop and looked at how Student Council could encourage more younger student voice in meetings and activities.

The merits of the February Wellbeing Challenges such as the Glimpse of Nature Photography Competition; Healthy-Eating Cookery & Bakery Challenge as well as physical health challenges such as yoga, walking and Couch to 5km were also highlighted and extended for a week! Representatives will attend the ISSU Extraordinary Assembly on 31st March.
