NEWS / 23 October 2013

Alice Murphy (6th Year) provides a round-up of the work that Student Council and Greenschools has done since the return to school after the summer holidays.

We’ve gotten to a great start to the year over at Student Council and the lack of blog posts lately will testify to this as we race through our last term!

In September, we held the first year elections and welcomed 1st Tear students, Jake Turley and Tim Murphy to Student Council. We also took over the first assembly of the year and used a student- led activity to explain the Jewish Holidays which fell last month. Hopefully it has added to the level of student engagement with why we get so many days off in September! Diarmaid Kelly (6th Year) and Evan Matthews (3rd Year) also recited some of the late Seamus Heaney’s poetry to mark the passing of an important figure in Irish culture.

On Thursday 10th October, in conjunction with Ms Reynolds, we held a ‘Walk in my Shoes’ day to fundraise for mental health. Everyone had to wear a pair of non- school shoes  to illustrate what it’s like to put yourself out of what you normally do and see what it’s like to literally walk in someone else’s shoes!

This week (the 21st October), the Class Reps are organising a Friendship Week. Activities will be happening throughout the week and we hope it’ll be a great success! The Senior Prefects will be busy assisting with the Awards Ceremony which will happen on Friday, 25th October.

As usual, we are holding meetings every Monday at lunchtime, assisted by Ms Kenny. We are also supporting Greenschools in their effort to renew the Green Flag. If you have any issues to bring up, don’t be afraid to talk to your Class Rep or a Senior Prefect! These are Jake Turley and Tim Murphy (1st year), Alannah  O’Byrne and Jake Henry (2nd year), Daniel Eppel and Evan Matthews (3rd year), Fiona Maguire (TY), Hannah Kearns (5th year). The Senior Prefects are Gabrielle Eppel, Diarmaid Kelly, Michael Lawlor, Rachel Jones and myself, Alice Murphy in 6th year.
