Stratford Parents Association – become involved in your child’s school community

NEWS / 21 October 2013

The Stratford College Parents Association AGM is at 8pm on Wednesday, 23rd October. All parents and guardians are welcome.

My wife and I had spent 6 glorious years watching our elder daughter Ashley pass through Stratford College. A lifetime experience for our daughter which shaped where, at 21 years of age, she is presently at in her professional life. Throughout the 6 years Ashley spent in Stratfrd, both my wife and I stayed in the background of the school community. However, as Ashley left to enter UCD, our younger daughter stepped through the door of Stratford College and entered 1st year. It was at this point that we realised the wealth of academic, personal guidance and development that Stratford College and its staff were providing, that we made a collective decision to become more involved in this wonderful community of Stratford College.

Having voluntarily taken on a couple of tasks suggested and accepted by Ms Gordon, I decided to join the Parents Association. Since then I have met numerous other parents and made friendships which would not have happened if I had not engaged with the PA. Being involved as a parent, does not mean joining committees or taking on responsibilities that are time consuming. In fact, even being a member of the PA Committee there is little or no burden from a time perspective. There is a wealth of talent and expertise among our parent community which can benefit our children, but more importantly, our school community.

I would therefore encourage you, to attend the Parents Association AGM on the 23rd October next, and allow us to introduce ourselves to you. Your support and or future involvement, no matter how small, could prove invaluable in developing and enhancing the relationship that you as a parent or guardian has with other parents and the school community during the lifetime of your child’s journey through Stratford College.

The Association will provide a report of its activities for the academic year 2012/13 and hold its election of officers for the forthcoming year. Your support and involvement would be much appreciated. The AGM will be followed by Jacinta Kitt’s talk on "Bullying Prevention" in the school hall.
