Throughout January Ms. O'Kelly has been withdrawing out-of-date books from the Library. These books are going to be sent to school libraries in India, Tanzania and Nigeria. Professor Mary Burke, from the UCD Volunteer Organisation (www.ucdvo.org) collected 8 boxes of books. Professor Burke told Ms. O'Kelly that "while the books might be out -of-date, they are still factually correct". The UCDVO has set up school libraries for primary schools in Tanzania and India.
Donald Odegbesan, President of AOSI Ireland, a charity that runs educational projects also took 8 boxes of books that his organisation will be shipping to Ogun State schools in the south-west of Nigeria. He was most grateful for the books.

From a Green Schools perspective, this is an excellent way of recyclying old books and it is great to know that they will be appreciated by students in different parts of the world. (Click on thumbnails to open an enlarged version of image.)
