National Parents’ Council Post Primary: savings on school books

NEWS / 23 September 2013

The NPCpp compiled this letter in June highlighting the savings that can be made on school books.

School booksDear parents and friends,

As per the attachment I wish to advise you to the huge savings being made by one Irish publisher. The books are compiled by teachers in our education system. They are printed here in Ireland thus proving that it is still possible to be competitive within Ireland. Please note that the ebook required to accompany these publications are supplied free of charge.

However as always outlined, National Parents Council post primary (NPCpp) does not endorse one publisher above another but advocates the savings being made by this publisher to parents.
NPCpp will advocate other publishers on this matter should similar savings come about.

We are very much aware that the issue of 23% vat on ebooks is a major concern, and we have highlighted this issue to the Minister for Education and Skills.

I am bringing this issue to your attention. NPCpp have no vested interest in any publisher nor are they insinuating any publisher has better productions than others. NPCpp is merely highlighting the severe financial burden surrounding the cost associated with school textbooks.

Finally may I remind all, that competition on the cost of books of past exam papers over the last three years has resulted in the significant fall on the cost of these.

I would hope that by highlighting this comparative cost of books would do similar.
