I would like to thank all students involved in the Log On To Learn Programme. TY and 5th Year students paired up with an elderly person from the community to share their computer knowledge.
This is the community part of the An Gaisce award the students are partaking in. The eight week programme took the person’s initial skill level, learning pace, interests and hobbies into account and aimed to build confidence and have fun surfing the net, booking holidays and organising their finances from the comfort of their own homes. I would like to mention in particular what great mini teachers the students were.

"As I had never used a computer before each class I learned something new. I found learning to type and use the internet very useful and I’ve over come my fear of using the computer." Deirdre McArdle
"No experience at all in September. Whole concept extremely interesting but while simple in itself I found it confusing. Without someone beside me the machine would be out the window. However the quest for information continues." Angela Murphy
"I really enjoyed the course. I had very basic skills. Hugh my mentor is very patient, kind and made every effort to facilitate me. It was a wonderful opportunity for me to work with a young student. I also noticed the other students being very patient with my other colleagues they were so helpful. Well done to all especially Hugh." Mary Foley
