NEWS / 9 March 2018

On Thursday, 8th March parents, teachers and students were invited from Stratford schools to attend an evening explaining the new Leaving Certificate Computer Science subject. Stratford College has been selected as one of the 40 phase 1 schools, starting September 2018.

Professor Brendan Tangney, Professor in Computer Science & Statistics in Trinity College and Chair of Digital Strategy for Schools 2015-2020 Implementation Advisory Group, gave the keynote address.

Past pupils, Leanne Flynn (2005) who works with the IT Alliance Group and Megan Smith (2006) who works with Dropbox, also gave talks about their experience of working in IT. Ms O'Kelly spoke about Computer Studies is taught from 1st Year to 6th Year using the Bridge21 Activity model and how introducing Computer Studies at Leaving Certificate level is the natural next step for Stratford. Mr Fennell spoke about different aspects to computing from a Physics/Maths perspective.

There was a great buzz to the evening amongst students and parents and we are most grateful to Professor Tangney for visiting Stratford.
