Earlier this year Stratford College was invited to take part in the video recording of best practice being carried out by NEPS (National Educational Psychological Service) for the Department of Education from the perspectives of school staff and students. What is the project about?
The Department of Education launched the revised Wellbeing Policy Statement and Framework for Practice in October 2019. Schools have been asked to use the school self-evaluation (SSE) process to initiate a wellbeing promotional review and development cycle by 2025. The recording would be used to learn how our school communities (primary and post-primary) have used the framework to promote wellbeing in their school context. The recordings will be used to help schools better understand how wellbeing can be reviewed using the SSE process and integrated into school improvement plans.
Why has Stratford College been asked to participate?
Our school was identified by the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) (now OIDE) as being associated with good practice in terms of implementation of the Wellbeing Policy Statement and Framework for Practice. What will happen to the videos of the project?
Findings will be shared with Oide and gov.ie. It may also be used by NEPS during Teacher Professional learning (TPL) events on Esinet or by the Communication section within the Department of Education.

The 1st years completed a zombie lab today where they used their scientific methods and thinking to identify patient zero from the zombie suspects. Using measuring skills, pH, observation skills and much more they successfully identified the source of the outbreak!

The TY Horticulture class were out in the Autumn sunshine planting Spring bulbs using the chaos planting method. This is when a multitude of different spring bulbs (Hyacinths, Daffodils, Tulips, Crocuses, Narcissi) are mixed together and randomly planted so that we have a mixture of flowers and patterns emerging in the spring. It mimics nature and so is more enticing to pollinators and native insects that need the food in Spring.
Stratford is celebrating Maths Week 2026 (12th - 18th October) with daily activities around the school, at breaktimes and in Maths classes! The tutor-time daily quiz is proving to be extremely competitive as each form group tries to solve it and then run to find Ms Matthews in order to win the box of chocolates!
