On Tuesday, 6th March, TY students, Gabi Eppel, Diarmaid Kelly, Alice Murphy, Abi Grainger and Jonathan Sweeney entered the Young Social Innovators (YSI) Speakout in DCU. Their topic was Teenage Mental Health. Gabi Eppel reports back on the day.
"Diarmaid, Alice, Abi, Jonathan and I entered the Young Social Innovators Speakout. The competition was held in the Helix in Dublin City University. We met Mr. Culliney there and then signed in. There were lots of groups from Leinster wearing different costumes. We were one of the last groups called. We had a fantastic day." (Click on thumbnail to open an enlarged version of image.)

At the end of March, TY students spent two days in an animation workshop with Maeve Clancy. Two of the animated stories - "Secret Sidekick" and "Vertically Challenged" are now on YouTube.
Sarah Cunningham and Stephen Fehily, creators of "Secret Sidekick", describe the storyline. "Bunny is lost and misguided due to the space on the wall in the Art gallery. Bunny starts to paint but makes a mistake. Sidekick scares Bunny, who faints.
Rachel Jones, Adina Kilroy and Gabi Eppel, created "Vertically Challenged", a story about George the Giraffe, Curtis the Clown and The Too Tall Tree.

A big congratulations to Diarmaid Kelly (TY) who has been selected to represent Ireland in the International competition of the European Youth Parliament (EYP). It has yet to be announced when and where in Europe this competition will take place. Diarmaid faced stiff competition to make it through to the finals and is one of only sixteen people to have been selected from several hundred taking part in regional finals over the past few months. Well done!
According to Diarmaid, "at the National competition the hardest thing was getting your voice heard. I was again on the Economy committee".

Bhí Tráth na gCeist againn ar An Aoine 16 Mhárta I gcomhair Seachtain na Gaeilge. Thaitin sé go mór liom mar bhí meascán maith de cheisteanna ann. Bhuaigh mo bhord! Bhí na ceisteanna agus na freagraí go léir ar an teilgeoir agus ba rud iontach é sin mar bhíomar in ann na ceisteanna a léamh agus na freagraí a seiceáil ina dhiaidh sin. Ba mhaith liom níos mó tráth na gceist ‘sna ranganna. (Bruigh ar thumbnails chun an grianghraf a mhéadú.)

Battle of the Bands was organised by Katie Richardson McCrea, Diarmaid Kelly, Abi Grainger, Michael Lawlor, Alice Banville and Daniel Kelly. Ten bands played on the night with "Zero" coming in first place and winning a place at Dublin's Soul Festival in May. Alex Lai (6th Year) and Jake Regan (5th Year) are both students at Stratford.
One band also included students from the school - performing alongside Mr. Russell. There was also a special return of 2011 past pupils - Luke McGuinness, Gary Byrne, Tadgh Charles, Jack Flannery and Eoin Kearns playing in "Hello Tasty". (Click on thumbnails to open an enlarged version of image.)
