There is a newly elected Student Council. The new Student Council students are currently getting up-to-speed on what needs to be done during their weekly meetings with Ms. Kenny. The Prefects meet with Ms. Gordon every Tuesday. The first thing on the Student Council's agenda was to count the merits. 1st and 3rd Year were the overall winners. Recently Green Schools has started back with the new school year and is starting strong with help from the current 3rd years who are basing their C.S.P.E action project around getting the school new bins. More recently, the Green Schools committee submitted an application for a Green-Schools Flag. The deadline was Thursday, 1st December. We have to wait to hear if our application is successful or not.
The committee meetings are held in the English room during lunch time on Wednesdays. The meetings are open to all years from 1st to 6th. Our school's Green Code is "Encourage to clean, always think Green". We are trying to stress this, this year by starting with a new poster campaign to help remind our fellow students.
Thanks to the third years we have a weekly bin count. This is kept on the display board outside the hall so the students can be aware of the school's current recycling-to-black-bin ratio.
Green Schools co-ordinator is Ms. Donohoe and she speaks to the staff on our behalf when or if problems arise.
Green Schools has also decided to start the year off well by giving the 1st year students a cross-curricular project as part of their Art education. They will not only be learning but they will help raise awareness throughout the school. (Click on thumbnails to open an enlarged version of image.)

Choir members, Tim Cullen (3rd Year), Carmel Grey (2nd Year) and Jorden Bukspan (3rd Year) tell us how they felt singing at Bloomfield Care Centre, Rathfarnham on Sunday, 27th November as part of Social Action Week (Mitzvah Day). Ms. Charry, Ms. Gordon and Shelley Bukspan accompanied the choir on the visit.
"The highlight was the old man reading a piece from the bible", said Jorden Bukspan (3rd Year). Tim Cullen (3rd Year) said that the choir sang for "about half an hour. It was lovely to put a smile on their faces and some people cried with joy". "There was a woman shouting 'thank-you' from coming!", remembers Carmel Grey. The TY students had a sponsored sleepover in the school hall on the night of Wednesday, 23rd November. The sleepover was part of the Stratford College Social Action Week (Mitzvah Day) and all funds raised were donated to Focus Ireland. Not much sleep was had. Ms. Finnegan, Ms. Mahon, Ms. Mulligan and Ms. Donohoe also spent parts of the night in the hall too. Highlights of the night included making a human pyramid and playing Twister. Many thanks to Ms. Gordon who brought in a huge breakfast the next morning with lots of cinnamon buns! (Click on thumbnails to open an enlarged version of image.)
