1st to 4th Year students visit BT Young Scientist Exhibition

February 1, 2012

BT Young Scientist Exhibition 2012On Friday, 13th January a bus load of Stratford College students went to the RDS to visit the BT Young Scientist Exhibition. Read a collection of quotes from the some of the students who visited that day. Thanks to Ms. O'Sullivan, Ms. McCarthy, Ms. McGuckin, Ms. Cooper and Ms. O'Kelly who also attended on the day.  (Click on thumbnails to open an enlarged version of image.)

"The BT Young Scientist was great this year. The students work gave me a lot of inspiration for my project next year. The dresses made from recycled milk cartons was very well done. The Lazer game was great." Hannah Kearns (3rd Year)

"The BT Young Scientist was great this year like it has been every other year we have gone. Looking around at all the projects gave me lots of ideas on what to base my project on next year. The BT Young Scientist is one of my favourite trips that we go on in school because it's really interesting and a really good day out!" Joy Malone (3rd Year)

"The BT Young Scientist was really enjoyable this year. The students' projects were interesting and the Road Safety Car was very exciting. Ciara Harrison (3rd Year)

BT Young Scientist Exhibition 2012"The Young Scientist was a really nice day out. I learned so much from all the students' projects and got lots of inspiration for mine next year. The RSA car was the best. " Kara Stein (3rd Year)

"The BT Young Scientist was very interesting and enjoyable. There were experiments to watch and lots of things to do. I really enjoyed it." Fiona Maguire (2nd Year)

BT Young Scientist Exhibition 2012"I really enjoyed the BT Young Scientist. The highlights of the day, for me, was pretending to be a weather person with RTÉ and broadcasting live with RTÉ Lyric FM. When we went around looking at projects we found some really unique and original ideas which got us planning our projects for next year. It was very fun." Jill Ivers (3rd Year)

"The BT Young Scientist was very good this year. I found the projects to be interesting. There were good games at the weather and radio stand - presenting was good. Lots of fun. The Road Safety car was good and so was the driving simulator. " Tim Cullen (3rd Year)

"The BT Young Scientist was very interesting and a lot of hard work had gone into the projects. For the students, the RSA car was the best thing there because it went into a 360º flip and showed what it would of been like with a seat belt." Sadbh Charles (3rd Year)

"The BT Young Scientist was huge and vibrant. There were really interesting stalls with robots, 3D theatres, rubix cubes and thermal imagery. I really enjoyed myself." Niall Garvey (1st Year)

"The layout of the stalls were good and then we got free stuff." Daniel Eppel (1st Year)

"Had very flash, polished, non-student displays, making all of the student ones look very mundane in comparison." Seán Lysaght (3rd Year)

Science Week: Blood Transfusion Service talk to TY, 5th and 6th Year Biology students

December 7, 2011

Irish Blood Transfusion ServiceFor Science Week 2011, the entire 4th Year class, along with the 5th and 6th Year Biology students were visited by a member of the Blood Bank (or Irish Blood Transfusion Service) who gave a presentation on blood donations. She went through all the various details regarding blood transfusions, such as blood types, health of the donor, suitable ages and allowed the students to watch a DVD of the criteria.

Unfortunately for the 4th Years, they had taken part in a sponsored sleepover in the school the previous night and had difficulty keeping awake. However, the presentation continued brilliantly and ended with a Q&A session.
