TY students write,  film and edit their own songs in Song School

February 21, 2012

TY Song School 2012TY Song School 2012For three days, from Tuesday, 31st January to Thursday, 2nd February, the TY students were a hive of creativity in Song School writing songs, making videos of the songs and a separate film trailer.  The class was split into four groups. Some of the TY students recount their experiences. (Click on thumbnails to open an enlarged version of image.)

"We created our own songs. We recorded them and then filmed them altogether as a group. It was entertaining." Sarah Cunningham

"We made a song and we made a music video. I helped film the music video. I learned to be steady with the camera. The best thing was making songs and looking at how the music was created." Stephen Fehily

"Editing was excellent. It was fun the way you can change things. The video made me laugh the most." Liam Hennessy

"It was ok. It was fun making the music videos and the film because it was easier. Making the songs was more difficult because people had different artistic ideas." Elan Bondi

"It was an interesting experience. My group made a hip-hop song. We also got to make a music video - that took a day to get together. We had to write a song, make a music video and make a film trailer." Michael Lawlor"

Stratford College Choir at Bloomfield Care CentreStratford College Choir at Bloomfield Care CentreStratford College Choir at Bloomfield Care CentreChoir members, Tim Cullen (3rd Year), Carmel Grey (2nd Year) and Jorden Bukspan (3rd Year) tell us how they felt singing at Bloomfield Care Centre, Rathfarnham on Sunday, 27th November as part of Social Action Week (Mitzvah Day). Ms. Charry, Ms. Gordon and Shelley Bukspan accompanied the choir on the visit.

"The highlight was the old man reading a piece from the bible", said Jorden Bukspan (3rd Year). Tim Cullen (3rd Year) said that the choir sang for "about half an hour. It was lovely to put a smile on their faces and some people cried with joy". "There was a woman shouting 'thank-you' from coming!", remembers Carmel Grey.  (Click on thumbnails to open an enlarged version of image.)

5th and 6th Year Music students visit the National Concert Hall

December 6, 2011

Music Students at the National Concert HallOn Monday 28th November, the 5th and 6th year Music classes visited the National Concert Hall to see a performance of Bach’s Cantata: "Jesu der du meine Seele" and Gerald Barry’s Piano Quartet No.1.  The concert was put on especially for Leaving Certificate Music students, as both pieces are featured on the Leaving Certificate course. Both pieces were explained after the orchestra’s performance and the backgrounds given. The pieces were then broken down into individual pieces by the speaker, and there was interaction with various sections of the orchestra and choir.

We all found the performance exceptionally helpful as these pieces are really brought to life when performed live. It was also very interesting to see how a professional orchestra works in unison to create the sounds we often hear recorded. Overall, the trip was a successful one and enjoyed by all.
