Three weeks after the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the 5th year geography class have studied the physical and social effects the earthquake had on Japan. As a geography student I found the devastation caused by the earthquake, which measured 9.0 on the Richter scale, to be shocking and furthermore considering the similarities between this earthquake and the 2004 South Asian earthquake, I found it remarkable that such substantial destruction can occur twice in less than a decade. On the 11th March a tsunami devasted Japan. As a school we wish to extend our sympathy to the Japanese people. At our Seachtain na Gaeilge concert the school held a minute's silence as a sign of respect to the Japanese people. See before and after images:

On Friday, 18th February, the last day of school before the Mid-term break, we took part in a quiz in Geography class. The teams were very well prepared and questions were based on the 1st Year course from September until March. The results were so close between the three teams. Congratulations to all participants. The winners of the quiz were Kate Dempsey, Carmel Grey and Nicole Lawlor!
