Stratford Moodle goes live!

December 21, 2010

Stratford MoodleStratford Moodle is an online resource where students can view teacher notes, assignments, grades/comments and events calendar. The website is www.stratfordmoodle.ie. All students have been given their username and passwords.  The website is purely for the use of Stratford College students and staff.  A pilot run has been successfully completed with 3rd Year students.  It is an exciting time. The teaching staff are hoping that the website will allow students to view resources, which is a huge advantage for 6th Years in particular, and also to lighten the load of heavy school bags.

School Open Day a Tremendous Success

December 21, 2010

Open Day 2010: Science LabOpen Day: Art RoomThe school was buzzing with visitors, teachers and students at the recent Open Day on Sunday, 14th November.  Stratford College opened its doors at 2.30pm. Visitors were greeted by students at the front door and brought on a tour around the school. Student work was on display all around the school.

Past-pupils returned, including Barry Grehan (2009) and Jennifer Murphy (2004), the Parents Association provided snacks and our musically talented students provided fantastic background music. The Science Lab was a big attraction—6th Year Biology students, Hannah Grainger and Ruby Murphy dissected lambs’ hearts, while 5th Year Chemistry students, Peter Cleary and Bogdan Kuzmanovic made ‘slime’.

Just after 3pm, everybody assembled in the Hall to hear—what we all know—why Stratford is so great. Mr. Russell spoke about always knowing all the pupils when he met them in the corridor. Ms. Gordon outlined the school values, inspection reports and the many extra-curricular  activities for students.

Open Day: audienceOpen Day: My Fair LadyOpen Day: Stratford College Vocal WorkshopDonagh McMahon (2009) spoke about the great time he had in Stratford and now a 2nd Year Med. student in UCD. Fiona Richardson, from the Parents Association, spoke about the
inclusiveness she has experienced from the school. Then Emma West (2010) sang with her puppet, followed by an excerpt from the forthcoming school play, My Fair Lady.  We were treated to a short film, Inside Out - a week in the life of Stratford College—filmed and produced by Eugene Grey (parent). The Stratford College Vocal Workshop wowed the audience with a number of songs, with Turlough Eccles (2nd Year), Jake Regan (TY) and newcomer Alex Lai (5th Year) playing the music. Everyone in the school worked really hard in the weeks before the Open Day and that’s why it was such a success. Photographer: Jorden Bukspan (2nd Year). Well done!
