'Leafy-with-love banks and the green waters of the canal
Pouring redemption for me ...'
'Canal Bank Walk'.
We decided to take advantage of our local heritage and traipse down to visit Kavanagh's memorial located beside the Grand Canal in Ballsbridge. Reciting his Canal poems at the source of his inspiration gave his poems an added tangibility and relevance. Hopefully this sensuality will help our students to recall these rich poems during their examination in June. (Click on thumbnail to open an enlarged version of image.)

"In my opinion, the walk was a good experience. Listening to Patrick Kavanagh's poetry describing the canal, while at the same time observing it, was helpful and insightful. " Bogdan Kuzmanovic (6th Year)
"The Canal Bank walk was an insightful and relaxing experience for all, as we sat listening to Patrick Kavanagh's poetry and filled up on our only bit of sunshine for the rainy weeks to come." Peter Cleary (6th Year)

Stratford Schools Parents Associations held a Coffee Morning and Presentation at 8.30am on Wednesday 25 April, 2012 in the schools hall. The presentation was about ‘A personal experience of inter-country adoption’ by Cormac Murphy. You can view the presentation as a PDF file.
Cormac has adopted two children over the last 8 years and will talk about the experience both from a legal and humanitarian perspective. You probably know someone who has adopted from outside of Ireland and are curious as to what is involved. Maybe even someone in your own family is an adoptive parent but there are questions you have not asked? Perhaps inter-country adoption is something you are considering? On Tuesday, 17th April a new school record was set for the beep test by Turlough in 3rd year. The new record now stands at 13.5 by a fantastic athlete. The previous record stood at 12.8.
The beep test involves students running between two bollards 20m apart. Level 1 means a student runs 20m, 10 times and they have to do it within 11 seconds. Level 2 means you run 20m, 10 times within a shorted time period and so on. Turlough reached level 13.
